A Brief Biography of Dr. Jason Lowenstein

Dr. Jason Lowenstein is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon who specializes in adult and pediatric scoliosis. He is well-known as a partner of The Advanced Spine Center and serves as the Director of Scoliosis at Morristown Medical Center.

Dr. Lowenstein graduated with the highest honors from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in neuroscience and was named a Dean’s List Scholar. After attending the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Lowenstein earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. It was here where he worked in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery’s Growth and Development Laboratory, performing gene therapy research into the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders.

Subsequently, Dr. Lowenstein completed his surgical residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where honed his surgical skills by correcting various spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and spondylolisthesis. After his residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Lowenstein completed his fellowship in spine surgery at the Emory Spine Center. He now practices spine surgery at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, where he uses his extensive knowledge in minimally invasive surgical care to treat a large variety of spinal deformity cases.

Treating Spinal Deformities

Dr. Lowenstein’s main goal for treating spinal deformities is to do so in the least invasive way possible. This means exhausting all conservative avenues available before considering any surgical procedure—minimally invasive or otherwise.

After all, if you have a spine condition that can be remedied through the power of physical therapy and over-the-counter medicine, then that’s obviously the way to go. That being said, sometimes such options aren’t enough to solve a patient’s problems. In these instances, Dr. Lowenstein will move on to the next viable stage: minimally invasive spine surgery.

There have been numerous modern advancements in the sphere of minimally invasive spine surgery. Generally speaking, minimally invasive spinal procedures boast much faster recovery times and less scarring than traditional, open-back surgeries. Furthermore, smaller incisions also mean fewer complications. In fact, this is the main advantage of using the smaller incisions, as it causes much less trauma to the body and adjacent structures or tissues.

Do you have back pain that has persisted for a period of two weeks or more? Have conservative treatments such as stretching, exercise, and over-the-counter medications done little to address your discomfort? Maybe it’s time to give Dr. Lowenstein a visit.
