About Dr. Gatto

Dr. Charles A. Gatto is a partner at the Advanced Spine Center and chief of the spine section for the department of orthopedic surgery at Morristown Medical Center, in Morristown, NJ.

Dr. Gatto is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has extensive training in all aspects of spine surgery, with a particular interest in spine trauma, degenerative spinal disorders, work-related spinal conditions, and the advancement of minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Gatto’s approach to treatment is very conservative, fully utilizing all diagnostic options and preferring to exhaust all nonoperative avenues before considering surgery.

He received his medical degree from the Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York. He stayed there and went on to complete his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery, as well as his fellowship in disease, disorders, and surgery of the spine. While in Albany, he received The Barnett Award for Excellence in Medicine & The Clark Award for Excellence in Research. He also served as chief resident in his final year of training and was an attending surgeon on staff for orthopedic trauma as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Gatto accepted a position as an attending surgeon and clinical assistant professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, NY, where he served as the chief of spine for the department of orthopedic surgery. Dr. Gatto then moved his practice to New Jersey, and was previously a partner at Tri-County Orthopedics in Morristown, NJ, where he served as the Director of the Tri-County Spine Center.

New Jersey Monthly Magazine has named Dr. Gatto one of New Jersey Top Docs of 2015. In addition, each year since 2006, the Consumers Research Council of America has named him as one of America’s Top Physicians in spine surgery.

Dr. Gatto is also a co-founder, past president, and current board member of Kids’ Chance of New Jersey, Inc. a charitable organization dedicated to providing scholarships for vocational and college education to the children of catastrophically or fatally injured New Jersey workers.
